Mr Nicholas Rosellini - Deputy Assistant Administrator & Deputy Regional Director, UNDP Asia Pacific Regional Centre (APRC)
"The Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme is a flagship initiative which is already showing concrete results on the ground. As a result, the Programme is gaining a lot of attention from around the organization. The ability to secure additional funding and to be upscaled is very impressive. Congratulations to the team for implementing such a good Programme."
Graham A.N.Wright - Programme Director, MicroSave
PFIP really looks like a hugely impressive programme set to make a disproportionate impact – MicroSave is honoured to be involved and hopefully contributing to it!
Sundar Ramamurthy - Managing Director Data Nets Ltd
"Data Nets Limited have been involved in Mobile Payment trials in Papua New Guinea. The technical assistance and support from PFIP has been instrumental in the launch of our pilot in April, 2010. The clear approach to financial inclusion in remote areas has been very beneficial to our pilot outreach to these areas."
Stephen Breen - Mobile Money Director, Digicel Pacific
“The Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme has been instrumental in delivering technical, financial and commercial support to our mobile money project that will help drive financial access in Fiji and the wider Pacific.”
Michael Rowland - CEO Pacific, ANZ Bank
"We have a great relationship with the Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme and we support its objectives to create greater financial inclusion of rural and low income earners.
We partnered with the United Nations Development Programme to launch a mobile rural banking service in rural Fiji as a pilot project in October 2004. ANZ's services were complemented by the UNDP's financial literacy programme.
This partnership to bank the unbanked shows what we can achieve by pooling our respective strengths to deliver viable and innovative banking services to the large number of people living in rural communities who do not have access to banking services.
The PFIP is playing a strong role in the region in facilitating discussions about greater financial inclusion across the Pacific. We share a common goal to ensure our communities in the Pacific develop greater confidence, skills and knowledge about money, saving and budgeting."
Jeremy W. Cleaver - Private Sector Development Specialist, Asian Development Bank
“Since Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme began, it has swiftly identified and acted upon opportunities to catalyse financial inclusion activities in the Pacific. The PFIP team has worked closely with Pacific donors, including Asian Development Bank, to ensure that our interventions complement each other well. We look forward to continuing to work with PFIP to increase financial inclusion in the Pacific.”
Stuart Mathison - Head of Operations, National Bank of Vanuatu
“Providing banking services in rural Vanuatu is an enormous challenge. The population is spread over numerous islands, most of which do not have power or basic telecommunications infrastructure. National Bank of Vanuatu, Vanuatu’s only rural banking service provider, has been providing banking services through twenty-five branches in remote islands for ten years. National Bank of Vanuatu has employed some extreme measures to maintain rural banking operations including relying on branch employees to walk long distances to the only local telephone in order to relay the week’s transactions. Now, National Bank of Vanuatu will be connecting 13 of its 25 branches via a broadband satellite communications network with renewable power solutions so that for the first time the rural branches will be able to communicate in real time. This foundation will enable National Bank of Vanuatu's rural branches to provide banking services to the main rural populations and to support other innovations in branchless banking. The Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme has provided support for the first stage of the project, being the first 7 branch installations.”
