PFIP has been a lead sponsor of the region’s premier microfinance event, the biennial Pacific Microfinance Week (PMW) since 2009, providing financial and technical support to Microfinance Pasifika Network (a regional network of microfinance practitioners, providers, regulators and supporters) and it’s Secretariat, the Foundation for Development Cooperation.
PFIP participated on the steering committee to support in content development, and also hosting sessions and sponsoring participants for regional learning. The event provides excellent peer-to-peer learning opportunities across private, public and non-governmental organisations.
PMW 2015 was held in Honiara from 21st-25th September with the theme ‘Next Mile Financial Services in the Pacific’, and attracted a wide range of delegates from financial sector stakeholders including microfinance institutions, domestic government agencies, credit unions, community-based institutions, commercial banks, mobile network operators, central banks and regulators, development banks, insurance companies, educational and research institutions and donor groups. The successful week-long event included 6 workshops, 7 panel and 7 plenary sessions and 4 field visits, providing a comprehensive platform for Pacific financial sector stakeholders to share knowledge, network and engage in technical exchanges on new initiatives and ‘best practice’ to achieve greater financial inclusion in the Pacific region.
