Digital innovation for financial services have now become an increasing trend for the younger generation.
The Pacific financial inclusion programme which began in 2008, was about how the Pacific can access banking services through their mobile phones.
Vodafone mCommerce and Corporate Affairs, Shailendra Prasad says the MPaisa system allows people to make payments and access transactions electronically.
“For a small country like Fiji, where 35 per cent to 40 per cent of the payment is either to government or from government, it provides a critical message to go digital and its sort of good initiative to be part of it”
Prasad says this financial inclusion programme is also taught in schools and children are qualified to learn about financial literacy.
Around 150 participants from across the Pacific region, Africa and Southeast Asia gathered today to celebrate its 10th anniversary of the Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme at USP.
The PacFarmer app which is a digital platform for Fijian farmers will be launched tomorrow.
