2 primary schools receive cash and a trophy for completing financial education training

Two Fijian Primary schools have been awarded $2,000 cash plus a trophy while two winning primary school teachers have received $1,000 cash with a trophy for their practical application of learning related to Financial Education through innovative projects at the Fiji Head Teachers Annual Congress held in Nadi.

This year’s winning teachers were Kitione Ligavatu of Uluinakorovatu Primary School and Komal Saqabobo of Indira Gandhi Memorial Primary School.

The two winning schools were Samabula Gospel Primary School and Indira Gandhi Memorial Primary School.

Kitione Ligavatu, who won the 2017 Innovation Teacher Award was this year, recognized as an outstanding winner and wins the Award for a second year in a row. 

All of Ligavatu’s Year 3 and 4 students at Uluinakorovatu Primary  School on Beqa Island, are now proud unit holders with the Fijian Holdings Unit Trust.

The entries were judged based on the impact that the projects have had on the financial behavior of the students that have influenced their lives, families and the wider school community in the areas of saving, spending wisely and investing.

The Awards celebrate the achievements of primary schools in Fiji that have supplemented the Financial Education learning in their classrooms with innovative projects developed by teachers and students within their schools.

These projects allow students to both, enhance and demonstrate their personal money management knowledge and skills through real‑life application.

The awards were funded by the Australian Government through the Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme.
