PM wants changes for Fiji’s Insurance Industry

April 11, 2016

The Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has given a directive to the Ministry of Finance to make some significant changes to Fiji’s Insurance Industry which he feels is in need of dire reform.

While launching the ‘Help for Homes’ initiative in the weekend, the Prime Minister highlighted that rural and maritime communities are not being given the options for insurance cover that they deserve. Bainimarama says there is a great focus by insurers to offer coverage to urban communities and tourism related infrastructure.

“So I have asked the Attorney General and Minister for Finance to get the insurance industry on track and relevant to all Fijians. For example many insurance companies currently do not offer flood risk coverage for ordinary Fijians living in Nadi and Ba. In many countries such a discriminatory practice would not be tolerated.”

The Prime Minister also thanked the Fiji Institute of Engineers for their voluntary assistance in helping to launch the Help for Homes initiative.
