Through the 'Treasure Basket Game' women market vendors of Rakiraki will be taught the concept of Microinsurance. The game has been developed by Micro Insurance Academy India and adapted to the Fijian context by PFIP. The Treasure Basket Game is an easy and fun way to teach an otherwise complicated subject. It is envisaged that the women in Rakiraki will understand the concept of microinsurance and risk pooling at the end of the game.

This information exchange was coordinated in partnership with the Reserve Bank of Fiji. The session shared findings of the Mobile Money Omnibus Survey conducted by PFIP and Tebutt in Fiji in November, 2011. It focused on the importance of customer segmentation and targeting and positioning e payment products to suit the market segments.

The Citi-FT Financial Education Summit has become the most established annual international forum on financial literacy. The 2011 Summit in Indonesia will focus on the importance of financial education for people at the Base of the Pyramid, and the need for greater innovation and collaboration among stakeholders to make faster progress in reducing poverty and boosting financial inclusion. In 2010, PFIP sent various central banks reps to the same event last year and will likely do the same this year.  

The Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme (PFIP), in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the ILO Microinsurance Innovation Facility, is holding a half-day workshop presenting findings from the Microinsurance Demand Research in Fiji . This workshop follows the series of regional trainings in October of this year hosted by the PFIP, the Microinsurance Network, and the ILO’s Microinsurance Innovation Facility. This study was implemented with the Catholic Church of Fiji, Fiji Muslim League, TISI Sangam, and Partners in Community Development Fiji between August to October, 2011. The presentation will provide vital data related to household demographics, community participation, prioritized risk, coping strategies and feelings around microinsurance in Fiji.

PFIP participate in semi-annual strategy and coordination meetings with the Pacific Financial Inclusion donors Working Group that includes PFIP, ADB, AusAID, European Investment Bank, IFC, and NZ AID Programme.

Training of up to 25 AusAID and PFIP staff based on CGAP donor training modules.

FinED Fiji Professional Development Workshop for the Regional Champion primary teachers on the Class 5 and Class 6 Resources will be held in Suva from Monday 31st October till Thursday 3rd November. This is a closed workshop for Regional Champion primary teachers and training will be conducted by the Young Enterprise Trust (YET) NZ in partnership with PFIP.

The 2-day regional workshop @ Novotel, Suva aims to provide participants with the skills required for developing a systematic microinsurance business plan, including the most important stages and guiding principles in moving from demand research through developing products, processes and partnerships for successful service delivery. Participants will develop a business plan with the help of microinsurance experts during the workshop. Partcipation is upon invitation.

This 3-day regional workshop from October 18th - 20th will present what is considered to be best practice KPIs for measuring successful microinsurance products in terms of: product value, consumer satisfaction, service quality, and financial prudence. The sessions will be highly technical. Participantion is upon invitation.
